South Korea-EU leaders agree to strengthen three
major partnerships in 'Green, Health, and Digital'

President Yoon Suk Yeoladopted a 12-page joint statementafter a summit with European Commission President Ursula von der Leyen and EU Summit President Charles Michel.
The statement includes strengthening partnerships in three major areas: green, health, and digital. The joint document is for establishing a strategic dialogue between South Korea and the EU foreign ministers to enhance comprehensive security cooperation, and close cooperation by the international community to respond to North Korean provocations.
"South Korea and the European Union have been developing cooperation in all areas such as politics, economy, and global agenda for the past 60 years," President Yoon said in a joint press release after the summit.
The president explained, "We decided to expand cooperation in the field of comprehensive climate environment through the 'Korea-EU Green Partnership.' Also, For the purpose of responding to the global health crisis through a cooperative system, we have decided to make 'Korea-EU Health Emergency Response.'”
Furthermore, the leaders of South Korea and the EU decided to empower bilateral security cooperation. To this end, a strategic dialogue will be established between the Korean foreign minister and the EU's top foreign and security policy representative to strengthen comprehensive security cooperation in various fields.
On a series of legislative issues, such as the Carbon Border Adjustment Mechanism (CBAM) and the Critical Raw Materials Act (CRMA), the EU will continue to communicate closely so as not to impose restrictions on bilateral economic cooperation.
Finally, Korea and the EU decided to expand the foundation for the exchange of science and technology to strengthen mutual cooperation on digital trade.
