President Yoon Seok-yeol said on the 6th, "We should create a country where heroes in uniform are respected.We will have more fundamental and practical security capabilities while repressing North Korea's nuclear and missile threats."
At the 67th Memorial Day Memorial Ceremony held at the National Cemetery in Seoul earlier in the day, President Yoon said, "I bow my head and pray for the repose of all those who made noble sacrifices for the country. I would like to express my deepest sympathy to the bereaved families who have been suffering from the loss of their families for a long time," he said.
Under the theme of "I Remember Your Sacrifice to Protect the Republic of Korea," more than 5,000 people attended the ceremony, including those of national merit, bereaved families, key government figures, representatives from various sectors, citizens and students.
President Yoon said, "If it was the hero's mission to protect the security of the country and the safety of the people, it is the nation's duty to take care of the remaining family," adding, "It should no longer lead to tears of the remaining family.”
"The freedom and peace we enjoy now could be protected with the courage and dedication of the patriotic martyrs and patriots who sacrificed for our country.I believe that creating a proud Republic of Korea where freedom, democracy, and human rights are more alive and breathing is the way to shine their sacrifices."
"Even at this moment, North Korea's nuclear and missile threats are escalating.North Korea's nuclear weapons and missiles are threatening peace in Northeast Asia and the world as well as the Korean Peninsula."
"Our government will sternly and strictly deal with any provocations from North Korea. We will make sure that there is no gap in protecting the lives and property of our people."
President Yoon stressed, "I will remember the courage of heroes forever in the name of the country."
