President Yoon Suk Yeol delivered a keynote speech at the 77th high-level session of the United Nations General Assembly at the United Nations General Assembly on the morning of September 20.
In a speech titled ‘Freedom and Solidarity: Answers to the Watershed Moment’, President Yoon expressed his willingness to lead international cooperation and international solidarity in protecting the universal values and norms of freedom, human rights, rule of law to actively participating in the international community's efforts to promote peace and prosperity for future generations.
President Yoon stressed that the responsibility and role of the U.N. are more important than ever, with global citizens' freedom and peace threatened by changes in the status quo by force, threats of weapons of mass destruction, human rights abuses and widespread social deficiencies across the world.
In this regard, President Yoon proposed economic and security contributions to the promotion of health and security in the Republic of Korea, the contribution to climate change, minimizing the digital divide to contribute to social progress and improvement of living standards in the international community.
First of all, the ACT-A Initiative, the World Bank's Financial Intermediary Fund, the World Health Organization (WHO) Pandemic Agreement,the Global Health and Security Initiative (GHSA) Ministerial Meeting in Seoul in November were announced.
As a way to contribute to climate change, the expansion of Green ODA, support for low-carbon energy conversion to developing countries and active sharing of innovative green technologies were shared.
Next, in order to contribute to bridging the digital gap, the president announced the international transfer and sharing of e-government digital technology in Korea, the international sharing of education and investment infrastructure in the digital technology sector.
It was President Yoon’s first visit to U.N. General Assembly since he took office. His speech is seen as an opportunity to strengthen the support base of the international community in expanding the peace and prosperity of the Korean Peninsula and the global society.
